               Most modal verbs behave quite irregularly in the past and the future. Study the chart
               below to learn how “should” behaves in different contexts.

                  Should                Possive form
                  Recommendation,       a) People with high choresterol should eat low-fat foods. (Present)
                  advisability          b)  David should have eaten low-fat food to prevent him from his heart
                                        attack (Past)
                                        c) You really should start eating healthy food. (future)
                                        Negative form
                                        a) Joe shouldn’t smoke too much. It’s not good for his health. (Present)
                                        b) Joe shouldn’t have smoked so much. That’s what caused his health
                                        problem. (past)
                                        c)  Joe shouldn’t smoke when he visits Ali next week. Ali hates when
                                        people smoke in her house. (future)

                                        Also use ought to
                  Should                I should be at shcool before 7.00
                  Obligation            We should return the video before the video rental store closes
                                        “Should” can also express something between recommendtion and ob-
                                        ligation.
                                        “Be supposed to” express a similar idea and can easily be used in the
                                        past or in negative forms.

                  Expectation           a) Puput should be in New York by now. (present)
                                        b) Pipit should have arrived in New York last week. Let’s call her and see
                                        she is up to.
                                        c)  Rizal should be in new york by next week. His new jobs starts on
                                        Monday.

                                        Negative form
                                        a) Puput shouldn’t be in New york yet.
                                        b) Pipit shouldn’t have arrieved in New York until yesterday.
                                        c) Rizal shouldn’t arrieve in new york until next week.
                                        Also use: Ought to, supposed to

                                        Present Expectation
                                        It is used when we expect something to take place but you are not 100%
                                        sure of that. We will use should/shouldn’t + V1 to represent the expec-
                                        tation.
                                        Your English test is at 9:00 am. You should get ready now.
                                        Rizal has an important exam tomorrow. He should not play game online
                                        now.
                                        Past Expectation
                                        In other hand, when we expect anything was supposed to happen in the
                                        past. We have to use should have/ shouldn’t have + V3
